Russell Loughlan’s gentle illustrations may evoke Beatrix Potter. But the artist’s use of text reveals a markedly contemporary mindset.
Russell Loughlan is a graduate of Central Saint Martins. He had his breakthrough show at the internationally acclaimed pop-up exhibition Tales From A Park Bench in Camden Town in 2009.
Since then, his work has exhibited and sold internationally from London to Perth. Loughlan creates thought-provoking texts and images, attributing emotions to animals. He works in illustration and collage, mainly using reclaimed or recycled objects such as books, postcards and maps. The results are sometimes funny, sometimes shocking, but always touching. In his work, hard-to-express human feelings are given voice. ML
