Dubai is full of gorgeous international eateries. Last month, we decided to try the new MINA Brasserie at the Four Seasons Dubai International Finance Centre.
Originally from Marin County, just north of San Francisco, I was curious about San Francisco Magazine`Chef of the Year` Michael Mina’s new, eponymously named brasserie in the United Arab Emirates.
The Mina Group is a San Francisco-based restaurant management company with over 27 restaurants — mainly in America and includes Bourbon Steak at the Four Seasons Hotel Washington DC and The Handle Bar at the Four Seasons Resort and Residences Jackson Hole.
Calif. Meets London Meets Dubai
Entering MINA, it felt like a quirky mix of The Ivy Kensington and The George members club in Mayfair.
Imagine a golden gleaming bar, blue leather banquet seats with brass and stud detailing, timber slatted table tops with rattan chairs and benches.
With different, random sized paintings dotted around the walls and egg shell blue colours, the venue blended English warmth mixed with West Coast charm.
The interior design was led by the Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, acclaimed for creating some of the top hotels in the world from Rosewood Hotels to Nobu Matsuhisa.
MINA Brasserie’s Terrace Is Green and Airy
Seated in the outdoor terrace full of plush greenery and a warm glow, we were brought a tasting menu of MINA’s dishes including tuna tartare with pine nuts, garlic, mint, and sesame-habanero oil, potato-crusted Dover Sole with crab brandade and mustard velouté.
As dinner continued, we barely had room for the smoked beef short ribs with squash puree, cherry tomato confit and smashed potato, but it was irresistible.
An Extensive Wine Cellar
Along with wines from France and California, the meal was impressive on any level. Fully sated, we capped the evening with delicious cocktails atop the Luna Bar which has an impressive night city view.
