Located in the trendy Portman Village section of Marylebone, Donostia is a chic, bijoux white box offering a fresh take on Basque cooking.
Actually, it’s delicious ‘nouvelle Basque’ and head Chef Damian Surowiec masterfully reinterprets the classics.
Starting off with succulent Gordal olives we knew we were going to be in for a treat, and it was. Hell, the end of the meal was wonderful, too, with homemade cherry ice cream.
But wait, it gets better. The owners also operate Lurra directly across the street – a grill focussed on house dry aged txuleta (steak from mature Galician cows) and wild fish.
Capping it all off, all the wines are imported directly by the owners which are priced fairly and perfectly matched to the cuisine.
