Her stud name was Ellomeek Travellers Babe but he called her Bee. Bee was curious and interested, interested in a life that was not just a horse’s life. She loved horseplay, but like him, she sought adventure.

Bee loved to stand under the golden banksia and watch the racehorses train along the beach. The sound of their galloping reverberated across the sands calling the dolphins into the shallows to play. They were kindred spirits. Nature dictated it.

He would visit the horse cafe so she could catch up with her sisters and cousins. If you bought a coffee, they provided the carrots for free. She loved the carrots. He loved the coffee. A short macchiato with hot milk on the side.

At the races he would park Bee in the rotunda where she would stay until the final race. It was her chance to reflect and his chance to put a bet on. He always won.

Bee was a cattle, polo and circus pony all rolled into one. She loved it when he rode standing up. They both felt a sense of freedom and a centring of their soles.
